QotD: You May Say I’m a Dreamer July 31, 2009

Do you remember your dreams?

OMG – how weird is that.

I always remember my dreams.

I live my dreams.

And I dream in colour.

And I had the strangest dream last night.

BUT – how fucking boring is it when someone wants to tell you their dreams????

As soon as someone says

I had this weird dream last night,

you just know you're in for about fifteen minutes of boring blather that you couldn't give a shit about.

And that is why I won't bore you with the dream I had last night.

Which lead to me being so tired this afternoon that I napped on the lounge and drooled on the pillow.

What I will say is this.

Vampires.

You now how all the vampires are beautiful these days? In all the movies and TV shows, vampires are shimmery and slim and gorgeous?

Well I had this dream last night and my vampire, she was a shocker. She was more sort of zombie. Think Living Dead – with teeth. And blue lips (thats where the colour came in).

But apparently she was fairly stupid, because I managed to lure her into the sun where she imploded. I dunno, maybe she thought she was more of the Twilight variety. Must have thought she was just going to shimmer in the light. But let me tell you – she went OFF!!

It was something to behold.

Even in your sleep.

So although in the dream we seemed to be friends (even though I killed her), I just couldn't sleep after the dream. I heard every little bump in the night, every cat screech, every creak in the floorboards. I even had to get up and open my bedroom door so I could keep an eye on anything that roamed past.

And the coal trains just rolled through town all night. And they always sound to me like an orchestra warming up. All sad and lonely and mysterious.

So yes, not only do I remember my dreams, but my dreams somehow manage to entwine themselves into my reality.

Which makes for a really bad nights sleep.

And I'd really like to thank all my foxxy voxers for their help with my last query. Thats what I love about this place – you throw something out there and you'll always get some help

MWAH.

and so now its good night from me,

and its good night from him

sweet dreams everyone

Vintage Image Ceramic Tile Coasters

Pardon my blatant plug of a title, but I'm doing a test.

See I'm not sure how well Vox rates in the various search engines. So for people like myself, who are trying to sell things, I'm not sure how much use vox is.

So say I have a set of four ceramic tile coasters for sale at my madeit shop, and they have been made using vintage photos of moulin rogue girls taken by Papa in 1964, mixed with some vintage theatre posters. And say that each coaster measures 4 x 4 inches and comes with felt on the back.

So lets just say that. And then we'll see if anyone turns up here after searching for such a thing.

How long does it take for "things" to get picked up by search engines anyway? Or do you have to ping them or something.

I think blogger is better for that sort of thing – isn't blogger owned by google anyway? hmm, wonder if that matters. And who the hell is Bing!!

Maybe I should have a blogger blog just for the tiles and coasters. I have a website that directs people to the madeit shop but I'm just trialling that for six months to see how much traffic comes its way.

Any ideas? And is it your title or your content that is more important. What about tags, do they matter?

Oh, here are the coasters anyway – pretty cool

is it a marsupial?? July 29, 2009

No way – its a giant freakin' rat.

And I just nearly trod on it on my way to the garage. The reason I almost trod on it was not because I didn't see it, because I did see it, but because I didn't have my glasses on, so what I saw was – a birds nest that must have fallen out of a tree. Then I got closer and no, its a tumbleweed type thing, with a bit of wire sticking out of it. Then just as I was about to bend to inspect it – holy shit, its a giant rat. A giant sick rat.

But hang on I thought, maybe its a little marsupial. Lost. Or sick. Ok, definitely sick. Poisoned by the look of it. So I rang Daz

where are you

at the workshop, why?

theres something you need to come and have a look at

ok

and probably kill

Because I didn't want Betty to get at it if it had been poisoned. Because it was big you know, so I figured fairly toxic. And I remember the vet saying something about cats getting sick if they ate poisoned mice.

So Daz turns up with JD for backup, and all I could picture was the scene from Me Myself and Irene where they tried to kill the cow.

So after we all agreed it wasn't a marsupial, and that even if it was, it was too far gone to help, we decided JD could put it out of its misery. And out of the yard. Anyway, we didn't want to turn up at the wildlife place only to be informed we had brought them a giant rat to save and release back into the wild. Because then we'd look like dickheads.

Its hard to tell from the photo how big he was. But you can get an idea from the thickness of his tail. And the feet – yikes look how long its toes are. Maybe its a bush rat.

Maybe thats whats been running around my ceiling for the past few months.

so this will be 29 – 35

I bought a new car on Friday.

I wasn't thinking about a new car Friday morning, but by 3pm I had one. Its a tiny weeny little Getz. Its on a truck on its way here from South Australia so hopefully I'll have it on Tuesday. And for someone who has no interest in cars, I'm pretty excited about it.

I'd been thinking of getting a new car a few months ago. I was ready to down size. For years I've been driving this huge toyota avalon. We bought it when the kids were going through their mutant teenage growing years and we bought that model because it had the most leg room in the back.

And it has been fantastic and reliable.

But now the two eldest kids have left home and Lizzie is usually driving around with friends and it seemed ridiculous for me to be driving this huge V6 tank about.

So we went looking at cars and they were so expensive! Even if we traded in the toyota we were still going to have to hand over about $25,000. So I said – forget it. There are other things I'd rather spend the money on. I mean thats a couple of overseas trips or a big slug off the home loan.

But then on Friday Daz comes home and said this Getz was for sale, brand new, drive away, for $13,000. So if I traded in the Toyota I'd have a new car for under $10,000. The guy said I'd get more for the toyota if it wasn't covered in dents and hail damage and peeling paint.

So we figure we buy this, its easy for Lizzie to learn to drive in and perfect for me to zoom zoom about town in. Oh but the power, or lack of it makes me smirk. I'm not going to be able to overtake everyone on the highway anymore, like I usually do. Especially if I have the airconditioner on. And I won't be able to take the death gap either without a few tests.

But we didn't really consider highway driving when we bought it. Because in his parallel universe where he lives, Daz is an american. And he drives this huge chevvy truck that all the boys in town are gaga over. So when we need to do any big trips we can use that.

I wish it was here now though. I am my fathers daughter. Once I decide to do something I must do it or have it instantly. I was willing to take the green one they had there just so I could have it NOW, but we decided on blue in the end, so it'll be here through the week.

So actually my answer to yesterdays QOTD about what do you wish you'd said to someone but didn't would be

do you want to come for a drive in my new car

What haven't you said that you wanted to today?

Well its 10am on Saturday morning here and I've been up for about an hour and I've had an egg and a cup of coffee.

No one else is home so I haven't said a single thing yet. For all I know I could have become mute through the night. I'm not expecting to have to say anything for a few hours yet.

I don't mind it actually.

However if I wanted to say something later, that I probably won't have had a chance to, it'd be something like –

really, you want to leave me a million dollars in your will? why thanks so much

QotD: Make New Friends, but Keep the Old… July 24, 2009

Who is your oldest friend?

I became friends with Bubbles in 1979, when we were 15,  and I'd I moved town and started at the local High School. We were in year 10 and went on to finish Year 12.

Here we are on our last day of school in 1981. I'm on the left front in blue and bubbles is in pink.

After school I stuffed about for a year then moved to Sydney to work and Bubbles went off to University. But we stayed in contact and still saw each other often over the years.

In 1988 I had my daughter Kimba and Bubbles is her godmother. Here we are at the christening. Daz had just almost knocked himelf out on a low beam. It took him a while to recover. What luxurious hair he had.

And then Daz and I were married the next year and Bubbles was my bridesmaid. She even made our dresses.

And then the year after that, after both of us moving around a bit over the years, we both ended up here, living in the same country town, which was pretty weird.

So we've been friends now for thirty years and we've never had any sort of falling out. We're both pretty easy going. And its nice to have a friend who knew you when you were a kid. Other people tend to know you as someones wife or someones mother, someones employee, someone who does something. Its good to have someone who knew you before all that, when you were just you.

And then one day Bubbles said to her friend Jem, I have this friend I think you'd get on with. And thats how I came to be friends with Jem about fifteen years ago. And now we all hang out together on birthdays, and christmas days and new years eve days and any old day we feel like.

365 day photo challenge July 20, 2009

okey doke – days 22 – 28

This whole 365 day photo thing is really a 365 things in my town for me.

So day 22. This awful bush grows in the library car park and you have to squeeze past it when you get out of the car.

And this is the library. Its only been around for a few years. When they put the plans up at the Council all these people were up in arms about how it was too modern and would look butt ugly bla bla bla. No one seems to care anymore though and I quite like it. Although the roof makes a lot of creaking noises on hot days.

And this was a little smart car that was at the pub one day I walked past. I'd like a smart car.

lol, theres Jem – at the pub again – we seem to be spending a lot of time there lately

Theres this gift shop in town that sells the most hideous things you've seen. Its like a country gift shop, full of ornaments and dolls that cost a fortune. There is so much shit packed in there that you'd never ever take a small child in there. You can barely move about.

Here we are at the fish shop – fish is just about as expensive as red meat here.

And the construction site at the end of our street. Been empty for years. Apparently no one wants to buy it because its all contaminated from once being the gas works and its too expensive to fix. So it probably has to sit there for about a thousand years before its ok to stir up. There isn't actually ever any construction going on.

thats not a dog blanket July 19, 2009

Jem came for a sleepover last night.

We went and saw Bruno which we thought was lame and boring. And then we went out for dinner where we decided bottles of wine must be getting smaller. Because they seem to be getting easier to drink.

And when we came home, for some reason I can't remember at the moment, I was looking through jems suitcase and I said –

hey, you bought the dogs blanket

and she said

thats not a dog blanket, thats my dead mothers dressing gown

and I said

well it looks just like Bettys blanket

as you can see
