Thank god daylight savings is finally over. (We had an extra month of it here this year). At last I won't feel like I'm getting up in the middle of the night when the alarm goes off. And doesn't this day, when you turn the clock back, always feel like the longest day of your life. Here it is 5pm and I'm ready for dinner.

Daz and I went out to the pub for dinner last night. I said I'd have the caesar salad with smoked salmon. She said – we're out of smoked salmon. I felt like saying – how can you be out of smoked salmon, there's a supermarket across the road. I can probably go stand at the door and look at the smoked salmon hanging in the fridge. But I didn't. Instead I said – ok, I'll have the caesar salad with prawns.

And it was just wrong. It was all wrong, prawns in caesar salad. And the dressing was not caesar enough. It wasn't all garlic and parmeson and oily yumminess.

So that was disappointing.

And they ripped Daz off. He ordered a dozen oysters and only got 11. When he said to the guy – I only got 11, the guy said – oh yeah, we found one in the sink but we didn't know whose it was. I find that hard to believe when I look around the room and see daz is the only one eating oysters. He said he'd bring it out. I don't know if he meant the actual one that'd been rolling around the sink or a new one.

Didn't matter in the end.

He didn't bring one out at all.

  1. is there another pub to visit? Obviously they haven't heard times are tough and fewer people are eating out – they do not appear concerned about maintaining loyal customer base! I love ceasar salad, but it is very hit and miss – when it is good it is vey very good, when it is bad – oily badness.

Yes, like any country town in Australia there are a stack of pubs, just that this one is on the corner of our street and has always been good before. They lost their Chef, she went back to Sydney. Make have to walk an extra 100 metres to the next Pub and try it.
Jems husband makes a very good caesar salad dressing. Just right.

Hurray for end of Daylight Savings
Boo for going out expecting a nice and it ended sucking.
Word to the wise NEVER ask for replacement food when you get given dodgy stuff when you are dining out – instead ask that it be deducted from the bill. You can just not ever be sure what the might do to your 2nd lot of food before they bring it to you if you complain….*shudder*

  4. Lee Says:

that should have said "a nice MEAL" not just a nice. It is a bit of a dodgy sentence without specifically referencing meal in there – one could totally misconstrue it into a very untoward direction…..
    Have a happy week cat!

It will make it easier for me to ring home now that you have finished daylight savings. It always takes me about a week to adjust to whichever way they change the clock. I ordered a Greek salad the other day which they might as well have been called a cucumber salad – it was basically cucumbers and some feta. It was made doubly horrible by the fact that I hate cucumbers!

  6. cat Says:

I just hate how it's 7am and almost pitch black. Wonder if we'll keep the extra month next year.
I'm not a cucumber fan either – mum tells me you have to peel them. Then I seed them as well, so not much left.

  7. cat Says:

lol – I know. I would never complain, I don't trust those kitchens at all. And especially after the whole ice cream poo thing.

Yeah, I'm with you on daylight saving – honestly, they should just start and end it on the weekend closest to the equinoxes. Felt a little weird this year.
On the good side though, I can report that autumn has officially started here in Canberra with the first decent rain in months and overnight temperatures finally starting to drop below 10 degrees on a consistent basis.

  9. cat Says:

I think autumn has decided to show up here as well. Although we I am still sitting here with all the windows open and wearing a singlet. My deciduous tree shows no sign of dropping any leaves yet though.

  10. Doug Says:

Don't like the daylight savings shift – at either end of the year. Seems much more bother than it is worth.

  11. cat Says:

We will stick with the Pub. Mainly because it's only about 6 houses away. And it is the first time it has let me down.
