Have a Seat July 5, 2010

There is a place we like to go to at Ettalong, which is on the Central Coast of NSW.  It's a bit like the Tardis. When you pull into the car park it just looks like a small Motel on a corner block. But once you step inside you could be lost in there for months. When the kids were small I was never game to let them roam off on their own. I always thought they might slip through a crack and never be seen again. There are little stairways and walkways leading to unseen tempting locations.  Really it's a kids wonderland. They have a pool there. It's like a roman baths. We saw it once but never managed to find it again. One day we were looking for it and walked through a door and found ourselves in a cinema.

There are about eight restaurants in there and every weekend there are markets as well. You can walk to the beach and the Pub and the rooms are cheap. And you would never be lost for a place to sit. Every where you look there is a chair or a bench.

It's a very weird place. Every time we leave I wonder if it actually existed at all. I always imagine that as we drive away it just disappears.

  1. Looks amazing! Is it a resort?

  2. Wow, so quaint and lovely. I would want to visit there as well. It looks like quite a charming place

  3. Then Says:

Where is it? I am in Sydney and might like to have a look one day–looks interesting.

  4. Emjay Says:

LOL – like the Hotel California – you might check in but can never leave. The markets make magazines – do you sell your tiles there?

Those photos are just so wow ..

  6. I'm confused: isn't it winter down there where you are? But the people in the photo are wearing shorts and t-shirts, and the place looks almost tropical. Is there another section of Australia that never gets winter, similar to our Florida or Hawaii?

  7. cat Says:

No – it's just this funny little building on a coner. Its like a little village. There is a resort at Ettalong – part of a club but we prefer this place. Its so quirky.

  8. cat Says:

Its at Ettalong Beach. I think its called Ettalong Beach Tourist Resort – although its not really the resort – they also have one called the Mantra Resort. This one is much nicer though. Its on the Central Coast. Its across from Narrabeen actually – I think you can catch a ferry from Narabeen in Sydney over to Ettalong.

No way – I don't do markets – tried it once, very long boring day. These markets have a lot of crap in them. I wouldn't go there just to go shopping at the markets. Usual crap there. But they're not open markets – people rent little sheds that are under this building. Like in the top photo, those blue doors would be open and there'd be a little shop set up in there.

Sorry – took these a couple of months ago. Definitely not that nice today but not sure what the winters are like there. If you go to Darwin its always hot there. Even through winter it's always over 30 degrees every day.

  11. I am so impressed that no one asked what a Tardis was!

  12. cat Says:

lol – they probably googled it

Looks like a neat place…I would love to visit it someday! If I do, I'll be sure to bring a large ball of twine so I can find my way back out again 😉

  14. cat Says:

    haha – yes, good idea

  15. Nice Place ^^ u won't get tired cuz u can sit everywhere! Is it allowed?

  16. cat Says:

Yes, definitely allowed – you can just stumble from one chair to the next
