What's one thing you can't say no to?

Lost dogs and kittens in pet shops.

I've had to ban myself from walking past pet shops. Once, within a few months we had four kittens. Big Man, Pumpy, Tossy and Marnie. Although Marnie came from the streets. Daz overheard some guys laughing about how they'd found this kitten and how they'd taken it out to the edge of town and tossed it into a paddock. So he went out there and searched for him and bought him home. We offered him to the neighbours but by the time they'd thought about it and decided they'd have him we couldn't give him up.

Then there was Carl. We stopped for breakfast one morning at Carlingford Shopping Centre and he ended up coming home with us.

Now they find me anyway. I currently feed two cats that aren't mine. There was another one we called Roger but I noticed he's living down the road now.

Lost dogs on the street seem to be happy to see me as well. And I can never just walk away from them. So I used to take them home. We had one stay for a weekend once until we found the owners. When I had the three little kids it was harder so then I just started ringing Daz and saying, there's a dog on so and so street, go get it.

Kimba is pretty soft as well when it comes to lost dogs and I think Daz actually abducts ones that aren't lost. Its not unusual to see him driving around with an unkown dog sitting up in the front seat of his truck. Because they love going for a drive don't they. Always look so happy going for a drive.

A couple of weeks ago he sent me a photo of two little dogs he had locked in his office. He'd even been to the butcher and bought them mince. They had tags with their phone number and address but no one was answering. So when it was time for Daz to come home he went around to their house, found the hole where they'd escaped and fixed it.

I think I can say no to just about anything else.

That's so cool he did that, fixed the holes. Sounds like lucky animals who cross his and your paths.

Didn't you have a kitten called "cost us" – a very long time ago. I also remember you bringing Cleo the dog home! And there was some other dog that brought distemper to the farm (though I am not sure you were responsible for bringing that dog home).

  3. cat Says:

    Yes, we are big softies

  4. cat Says:

    lol – I'm certain I didn't bring a distemper dog home
and poor old cleo, she was lovely – she ended up with heartworm after we moved and Dad payed a fortune to have her cured
Costus went on to become Big Man – he was Little Man after Costus, but then he grew big.

I love it. This sounds just us. I have been known to "rescue" dogs from their own front yards. I swear I thought they were lost! When I track down the owners, it turns out they live right where I found them.

lol, I did that once with a neighbours dog – bought it home and locked it in the cubby house for the day then discovered it lives four houses down – Honey her name was

    You and Daz are heroes.

  8. cat Says:

Yes, my daughter told me once that if she dies she wants to come back as a lost cat in my street.

  9. cat Says:

ha – I'll look after you
I get it from my father, he's a softie as well

  10. Catalina Says:

Smiling as I read this post as this reminds me of how I got the two lovebirds.

  11. cat Says:

We had a bird (Bob the Budgie) for a while. Daz was hosing the garden one day and he flew into the yard. We asked all the neighbours but no one knew him so we kept him. We weren't very good bird owners though, but he survivied a fair while.

this has always been my biggest weakness as well…(although my dogs are Schnauzers and they weren't rescue dogs or anything). but I want a stray too.

  13. cat Says:

Ooh, I just love all animals. My daughter bought her dog from a rescue place and she keeps an eye on their wbbsit ans she keeps sending me emails saying – Mum, Kurt is still there, go and get him.

  14. awww. Thanks, Cat! I've already put in my request with the cosmos. :DI'm a softie too, can't resist the critters! Especially fuzzy or feathered ones, or ones with big eyes.

  15. cat Says:

Lol, big eyes – thats how I became a vegetarian. I just found it impossible to eat anything that could look at you with such big expressive eyes.

  16. L Says:

they always the true measure of a person is how they treat animals 🙂
