I have finished sorting the slides. I have looked at, at least a thousand, probably more, and my scanner has been running hot dawn to dusk for weeks. And last night I abcked them all up. Just in case. Because if I ahd to do it all again I'd probably have to slit my wrists instead.

Now I can go in and have a good look at them all.

I do have a few favourites. But yesterdays favourite is often replaced by something new I see. But this one is always right near the top of my list.

This extremely cool retro caravan park is in England. A place called Lyme Regis, which is on the coast of the English Channel. I read that both Jane Austen and Beatrix Potter had holidays there. This shot was taken in 1957.

Check it out. Actually go look at it full size.

Isn't it great! it looks like a movie set or something. It was my grandfather who took the photos, not Dad. I did find some from New Zealand I'll put up. Is there a racecourse in NZ called Ellerslie or something? Oh, and I found another one of the opera house but while it was being built – all scaffolding over the front.

  2. Jack Yan Says:

My mistake—sorry about that! In any case, your grandfather’s talent is amazing. There is indeed an Ellerslie—just south of Auckland City. I’d love to see the scaffolding in front of the Opera House, too!

That was a mammoth task. This looks very cool – love the pastel shades.

  4. cat Says:

Yes, it was quite a task, but totally worth it. I never think of my Nan and Papa as being dead, just as being on a long trip overseas somwhere. On a neverending adventure.

  5. cat Says:

So what do I do with the slides now? Throw them away?
I love this one. Can you imagine being on holidays there.

  6. cat Says:

Yes, will get them organised now. He had some of Auckland Port and Elderslie racecourse back in the sixties. My mothers sister married a kiwi so they spent some time there.

  7. Jack Yan Says:

If you don’t want the slides, donate them to the National Library as an archive. I’d love to see those shots but remember you are in charge—if you get busy see to other things first!

  8. LeendaDLL Says:

While looking at it full size, I realized there are hardly any cars around. Where do you suppose everyone had gone?

  9. cat Says:

I would guess they've gone to the beach for the day. Then into town to get some bread rolls and ham for dinner.

  10. What a great shot!
I've been scanning old slides, too, but nothing on this grand a scale, and yours are really good quality. Hurrah for you!

I'm so glad It's over!! But I'm also so glad I did it, been very interesting.
