One of my favourite things in Mrs Mercers scrapbook (from 1951) was with brochure she kept from The Chateau Impney in England. Which must have been a pretty flash joint. Some rich brittish guy built it for his french wife, in a french style, because she was homesick for France.

I think I would have enjoyed living in this era.

Dressing up, going out for a cocktail. Listen to a bit of light music on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Or tea on the Terrace. I believe this place is still operating. Wouldn't be as much fun I bet.

You have to go and look at the full size version so you can read all the funky stuff that went on.

It was crying out to be made into a set of coasters

I've always wanted to try some of the old Fizzes. Only ever had a Slo Gin. I've never heard of the varieties in the brochure – but you can bet I would have tried them all!

Maidens blush – sounds very demure doesn't it. Sigh – I want to go there.

Found a billion links to recipes for this on the net – but I can't see them because our office has alcohol sites blocked.

lol – thats funny, big bunch of alcoholics well, there were a few different versions but this one sounded nice1 lime1 1/2 oz dark rum1 oz ruby red grapefruit3 tsp powdered sugar1 dash bittersSqueeze juice of one lime into shaker filled with ice. Add additional ingredients and shake well. Strain into 4 ounce cocktail glass. But then this one which is totally different1 1/2 oz gin1/2 oz triple sec1 tsp cherry brandy1 oz lemon juice1 maraschino cherryCombine the gin, triple sec, cherry brandy and lemon juice in a shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

  5. Cool! have you tried googling this place to see if you can find out anything more about it?

I saw one that referenced absinthe… which seems to be a theme to their drinks.
