dog day afternoons December 18, 2008

Its funny looking at everyones photos of snow, and reading of people being cold frozen when its so damn hot here. And clammy. We've been having those hot days where you get out of the shower but can't get dry because you're all clammy and awful. Mum tells me to stand naked in front of the airconditioner for a while, but I told her that would scar the poor little childrens minds. So I just don't shower.

Too hot for a dog as well. This is Mums dog Polly. She's about five hundred and ten by the look of her. She came from the pound years ago, so not really sure how old she is, but she likes to get as much body as possible on the cool tiles in the kitchen.

Betty lies in the garage on the hot days on the concrete. I let her in on the stinking hot days and she lies in front of the airconditioner on the tiles.

Cat day afternoons as well.

boy do i know those looks after having lived in the desert. my father reported on the …. cultural experience of toasty temps and BBQs at christmas when they were living in australia. when i'm missing the heat (never!), all i need do is look at your pics then look outside my window at falling snow and be glad i'm here not there.

I am a summer girl as well (even though I'm complaining about it a bit at the moment). I dread winter and can't imagine living somewhere it snowed – aren't your feet damp and cold all the time?

i'm not a summer girl, i looove the cold (unfortunately, my body doesn't quite so much), i really think it's those nordic genes (i also have the hair for frigid climates). yes, my feet are always cold (but this is more a personal quirk than anything else). the dampness, well, depends on location. i've lived in very damp climates (i.e., san francisco) where the temp. wasn't all that low and snow was like every 10 years and i was far colder (actually developed severe health problems) as a result of the dampness … whereas i've also lived in climates that are bone-chilling cold, snowy, but *dry* … much preferable and the feet appreciate it too. someday (if i ever have money again), i dream of spending a winter in alaska, where it's cold and dark like 20 hours a day. i would LOVE that! (as a visit, not to live in, i don't think …

  4. I never thought I would say this, but gawd, do I envy those dogs.
