I ran 5 kms this morning. And I'm pretty damn pleased about it. That was thirty minutes non stop running. Well jogging, not really what they call running. I didn't think I was going to make it. I got to 20 minutes and thought, I'll just go to 25 minutes and see how I feel, but when I got there I said, well I'll just go to 26 and after that its only 4 more minutes and if you don't do that you're a loser.
I started a programme eight weeks ago. You began by running for two minutes then walking 90 seconds and repeated that 8 times and did that three times the first week. As each week went on you ran more, walked less. Until today there was no walking.
I don't know why they say exercise is good for you. I felt exhausted afterwards and I'll probably need a lie down after lunch.
When I came inside Kimba said – Mum, I think you're going to have a heart attack. And I said – No, it'll be a stroke I think when it hapens. My face was a lovely shade of red. But that was because I'm still running in my winter gear with long socks. So I went and bought some running shorts but when I got them home I realised they had built in undies in them. Which seemed wrong. That means you can only wear them once before you have to wash them. Which doesn't work for me. Unless you wear undies under the built in undies. And that doesn't seem right. So they can go back and I'll get some 'normal' shorts.
So now I'll do that thirty minutes three times this week. Then I'll start speeding it up a bit. I'm going at 8.5kms/per hour at the moment and I want to be going 10kms per hour. Then I'll work up to 10kms distance.
It's very satisfying to set yourself a goal then do it. I'm livin' the nike dream.
