Sorting photos and found some from a trip to Toronga Zoo earlier in the year. A highly depressing place where you pay a fortune to stare and point at primates sitting in cages looking like they'd rather be somewhere else. Oh yeah, in a jungle maybe. I felt like crying every time we passed one.

  1. I agree, the primate cages always make me a little uncomfortable, there is just too much of myself in those eyes. They are intelligent beings, you can see it, you can feel it. humans are very cruel monkeys

they just always look so bored. They must wonder how the hell they evolved into what we became.

This is a very sad but true post. (I agree with Lavender that humans are cruel monkeys.)

I know that zoos are becoming a lot better and becoming more involved in promoting protection of animals and the environmental aspect, but they are still pretty awful. I wrote to the zoo once about their orangutan enclosure and I think it was the tiger who had a track worn from his constant pacing back and forth.

A lot of the zoo monkeys have swinging trees and ropes and large piles of mushy bananas. That's got to be pretty good for a monkey. As long as they've got sufficient outdoor space to run around and play, I'm happy for them. It's the elephants and the bears that depress me.(Thanks for the monkey post, Cat.)

  6. cat Says:

oh yeah – the elephants – here they don't even have to room to get up a, well not a gallop, but whatever they do thats faster than a walk. Neither do the giraffes. Although I did hear a woman say to someone that the giraffes had a lovely view of the harbour. As if they get up each morning and admire it!

  7. Karen Lynn Says:

Aww, you can just see the boredom in their faces.

  8. cat Says:

    it was really sad.
