Happy Thanksgiving November 22, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — panthergirl @ 6:30 am

I really don't have much of a clue about thanksgiving. Has it been yet? Is it a day or a week, maybe a month. It seems to have been talked about for a while now. All I do know is something about the pilgrims sharing a meal with the native americans. Now that would've been an interesting meal to be at. I know this because I found a couple of pages in a colouring book about the pilgrims. And you can just see what those two teenage indian girls are thinking.

"what the fuck is this"

    Thanksgiving. It's the fourth Thursday in November in the U.S. It's just one day, but usually encompasses at least Thursday and Friday, making a four-day week. It's to commemorate the pilgrim landing in 1619, really, but it was the feast at Plymouth in 1621 that was actually shared with local Native Americans and is what's being depicted in the story books.
    Now, aren't you sorry you asked?

  2. the pilgrims would have all perished if it was not for a native american tribe who showed them how to farm this foreign land and other strange food that grew here in exchange the pilgrims with their guns would help protect them against a neighboring tribe.

    ok – so it's today then – (friday here though) – you guys sure have a lot of public holidays! Well have a happy happy thanksgiving.

  4. Waterbaby Says:

    We do? Perhaps. But you have more fun living in Australia, isn't it? {covering potential red-faced embarrassment with hand}

  5. cat Says:

    well I have fun – my sister moved to DC a few years back and she's always having days off.

  6. Waterbaby Says:

    Perhaps your sister is self-employed? A kept woman? Financially independent? Has an employer who gives every holiday off with pay? Do not assume this is typical. There are plenty of us who get no holidays. Typically we're illegal, in blue-collar work, fast-food or retail.

  7. cat Says:

    nope – she's none of the above – didn't mean to offend.

  8. Waterbaby Says:

    Oh no, you didn't, not at all! thought never entered my mind. (p.s. neither would I sue you were I offended; I am not a typical American.) Whether statistically the U.S. has more or fewer holidays than other nations could be answered by google … and now I just might hafta go check!
