the story of matilda September 4, 2007

Filed under: digital scrapbooking, family, general stuff, kids, life, personal, photos, random, relatives — panthergirl @ 2:12 pm

began 15 years ago today at 5am in the morning. An easy uneventful labour that resulted in a 9lb 2oz baby girl. All the drama began before we left the house. I stood on the front verandah at 1am and flat out refused to get into this old heap of rubbish car we had at the time. No way was I going to the hospital in it. So we had a bit of a fight about it until Cheryl came out and said – Stop fighting and get to the hospital. So we went in the work truck. When we got there we’d forgotten the card with all the details from the prenatal classes so darren had to go home and get it. Then I couldn’t get any pethidine as I think the nurses were too scared to wake the doctor up to ask him. They finally did at 4.30am and of course she was born half an hour later so all it really did was make me zonked out for the rest of the day. The nurses had the room all dark and relaxing and the doctor stormed in with bed hair and shoelaces undone and yelled out – will someone turn on the bloody light! Anyway Matilda was a bloody brat in hospital. Wouldn’t stop crying – almost drove us all insane. The nurses said she was hungry because she was so big and couldn’t wait for the milk to turn up. Of course the doctor had said she wasn’t allowed to have formula while she was waiting and the old sister said it was alright for him home in bed, not here with her working herself into a state. (Matilda that is was in a state, not the sister, although I’m pretty sure she just about was as well). She ended up giving her bottles of water – poor starving thing. But we survived and made it home where I only knocked her out of the bassinet once (it had funny wheels and I was pushing it and they kind of caught and over it went). But I had her tucked in tightly so she kinda stayed intact. Poor old third child – you’re much more reckless with them. When Jessie was born we were scared to put one of those little bonds suits on her as we thought we’d break her leg trying to get her into it. We had an elaborate bathing routine that involved warm rooms and fluffy towels whereas matilda’s just involved throwing her in with whoever was in the bath at the time then lying her on the bathroom floor to get dry. But she survived. Poor child, look, we couldn’t even be bothered putting her legs in the bouncer properly.

really sweet and sickly actually. Unless you have a sweet tooth in which case it is yummy. I’m more of a savoury person myself. You know –  pizza, hot chips, that sort of stuff. But it does look good.

sin city rain August 23, 2007

sorry, couldn’t think of a more interesting title. Anyway, I saw this challenge to do your take on the sin city effect. Which is basically the rain. Which is a bit tricky. I checked out a few tutorials and found http://photoshoptutorials.ws/photoshop-tutorials/photo-effects/rain.html to be the best. So here’s my take on it. I’d like to thank matilda for being my model again and jessie for taking snaps. I’d also like to point out that I don’t make them eat peas every day.

you can’t run under a sprinkler anymore August 13, 2007

Not where we live anyway. Droughts and level 4 water restrictions put an end to that sort of fun. But we used to do it a lot as kids. I think we had a bore or dam the water came from so we weren’t just there wasting resources. We can barely run the hose at all anymore, let alone use a sprinkler. It works on an odds and evens basis. So even house numbers can use hand held hose for 1 hour at night on even dates. No car washing at all (which I don’t believe in anyway).  Lucky we had the flood recently – in some ways of course.

Here are my sisters and brother many many years ago looking like they’re in for a good dose of sunburn. This shall count as my elsie challenge – make it mega. And I thought I had. Made the lettering mega but now I look at it, it’s not really. But thats because I love the photo so much and kept making it larger.

cocktail hour August 12, 2007

I’ve just made these cocktail recipe magnets that I like very much. I’ve used bushes from dan at flyguydesigns.com who I think is designing the best brushes out there. If you’re looking for flower/foilage brushes they are absolutely the best. So you can snap up a set of the magnets at madeit.com.au – just check under magnets for a few others as well. Shameless I know. http://madeit.com.au/dev/proddetail.asp?ID=433

my parents on the other hand August 12, 2007

are quite strange people. It’s like they had children then didn’t quite know what to do with them – well, I know how that feels. I do sometimes find myself looking at my kids and thinking that I must really be a grown up now. And thats a bit disappointing.

The lovely blue flowers here were drawn by daughter jessie. I now have her locked in her bedroom drawing things for me to use.

two disappointing experiences today June 8, 2007

Filed under: digital scrapbooking, family, food, funky magnets, kids, life, photography, photos — panthergirl @ 11:42 am

First one was when I went to put jam on my toast and found it to be full of dirty butter bits that people have wiped off in there. I don’t eat jam much but I wanted to try a bit of that new crumpet toast. Well, I just got the knive and stirred it violently until the butter blended through. Second was when I went to the toilet and the person before me left the toilet paper roll empty. Don’t worry – not totally empty. There was still that little bit thats glued to the roll there. There is good news today though – I’ve had a brain wave regarding my nude vintage ladies so I’m off to mess around with them. Now these guys aren’t wearing their self supporting pants. But they do have their levi flares. And they have skivvies. Nice placement of the chick as well.

the importance of laundry…… May 26, 2007

Filed under: books, humour, life, random, women — panthergirl @ 2:31 pm

this little gem comes from the NSW Department of Education in 1941. It was an instruction leaflet for post primary housecraft.  So any young ladies out there – read and learn.

The Importance of Laundry

Whether your washing is done in a proper laundry… or whether it is done in tubs in the back yard, it is still an important branch of housework. Can I hear you say that you do not like these lessons as well as the ones in Cookery? Even if that is so, you must remember that the washing has to be done by someone, and that someone will probably be you one day. Do you not think it is a wise plan to learn to do it well? I am sure you do. So why not aim at being the best laundress in the district; better even than mother, if that is possible.

Kimba – the cranky bitch May 19, 2007

Filed under: digital scrapbooking, family, general stuff, kids, life, photography, photos, random, relatives — panthergirl @ 9:02 pm

Oh hang on, that was Kimba the white lion wasn’t it? One of my favourite shows. So, Kimba, 19 today. As they say, it seems like only yesterday. I went for my weekly visit to the doc and he said he was going to do an internal examination. Oh, great, because thats always fun isn’t it. So he popped on the gloves and I jumped on the table and he went about his business and all of a sudden there was this pressure release and a great flood of water. And the doctor goes “whoops”. And I’m like waddaya mean “oops”? And he says – you’re going to have a baby tomorrow. So we rock up to the hospital 9am the next day for an induction, which turned out to be no tea party. After a couple of hours I said to the nurse – I don’t think I want to do this any more. And she said it was a bit late for that. Turned out Kimba was facing the wrong way so we were spine to spine which really HURT. So I grabbed onto someone and said  – bring on the epidural. Bliss. I lay there and the nurse watched the moniter and occasionally said – that was a big contraction and I said – oh yeah, didn’t feel a thing. Then they said – time to push – so push I did and there she was. 4pm. While I was laying there waiting for them to wipe her off, the kitchen lady kindly brought me in a plate of lamb chops and veg which no doubt they thought I’d be in desperate need of. I did look at them and think about it, but, nah, just wasn’t right. So we were packed off to our room where many photos were taken – you know with her being the first grandchild on daz’s side. And I was wearing this most interesting nightie that my mother in law had brought for me. It was bright orange. It was very short. It was satin. It had no button openings for breastfeeding. It was bizzare. Ah, good times. I remember them so clearly. can’t believe it was 19 years ago. I remember we used to laugh and say that Kimba would be 18 the same year daz was 40. And thats been and gone. jesus. Happy B’day Jessie.
